Drawn to Cornwall by the wonderful coastline and quality of light, I have been living and painting near Falmouth for the last seven+ years.
Using mainly oils on canvas, I try to capture a feeling of depth and clarity of detail in my landscape paintings. I love the effects of light on the sea and often attempt to paint the same stretches of coastline in different seasons and weathers conditions. I am as equally fascinated with dramatic skies, windswept beaches and stormy seas as I am with quiet rock pool microcosms.
Using preliminary sketches in charcoal or inks, and later building up thin layers of oil paint in my studio, each painting may take several weeks to complete. As I am inclined to continue adding and changing details at every opportunity, I find that finishing paintings can often be quite a difficult process!
In addition to commissions I have been exhibiting my work both locally and nationally in group exhibitions and one-man shows. Recent works have been exhibited at The National Trust's Trelissick Gallery , the Battersea Affordable Art Fair, and the Sims Gallery in St.Ives. Future shows are planned for the Mall Galleries and Alexandra Palace (please get in contact for details).
