Simon Birtall
Simon Birtall produces his Impressionistic paintings on canvas, building up colour in multiple layers to create vibrant optical mixes. He favours scenes with striking contrasts of light and shadow, painting in acrylics or oils.
Simon's painting technique has been influenced mainly by the Impressionists and Post Impressionists, and in particular the colour theories and application of Seurat and Monet. His technique has also incorporated further influences, to a greater or lesser degree, including Sargent, Brangwyn and numerous other British artists from the late 19th and early 20th Centuries.
Born (in 1971) and raised on The Wirral peninsula in North West England, Simon was based in Falmouth, Cornwall from his time at Falmouth School of Art, where he studied Illustration in the early 1990's, to 2005. He has now returned to the North West.

Since 2002 Simon has offered an increasingly popular family portraits from photographs service, which now accounts for over half the paintings he produces. Illustration

Simon has received commissions for illustration work from clients including NatWest Bank, BBC Worldwide, Random House, Hallmark and Carlton Cards.
