Steve Slimm
Steve SlimmIf you have spent any time visiting art galleries in the SW end of Cornwall, UK, anytime during the past two and a half decades, you could already be familiar with the work of painter Steve Slimm. He has been exhibiting his evocative landscape paintings there and in other UK galleries continuously throughout that period. His main focus has always been the land, with its ever-shifting moods of light, and the deep sense of mystery surrounding those ancient timeless tracts of land and its coastal extremities. From his early training with John Miller during the late 70's, through his almost obsessional explorations into the works of Turner, Monet, and finally Van Gogh, he has moved further and further away from the literal, toward the abstracted interpretation of the essence of what he sees. In more recent years he has also developed an increasing love of colour, and uses it with an ever intensifying passion! If you check out his name on the web you will be aware of the many recent or current exhibitions of his original paintings.

Steve's history:
Steve is from The Black Country in West Midlands. He later lived in the Cotswolds and attended Cheltenham Grammar School. Moving to Cornwall in 1970, he joined an art group under John Miller for a brief period. Painting began to feature as a main interest in his life, with periodic encouragement from John through two decades.
Turner was an obvious influence during the early years. Many atmospheric watercolours found their way into collections worldwide. The Land remains the prime inspiration for his work, although the human form tends to creep in regularly, albeit often subliminally. His work is now far from realism, with an emotional intensity that is self-evident. His shows are always colourful, with most pieces hallmarked by a deep sense of mystery.

Artist's Statement:
(Yes this is all we could get - text enhancement his not ours!)

"What is Art anyway? Giving Form to that creative urge which constantly seeks expression. Mine is a passionate urge, and painting is one of several ways it emerges. For me painting involves shoving iT around or letting it flow until it pleases me!! . . . . (at least passably!) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Does it match my passionate urge? Rarely! Usually, however, it touches someone somewhere enough to want to own it and look at it regularly. If you are such a person, you are one of my valued customers!"

(Apparently Steve does not give much away when talking about his art!)
